Hitachi Rail's new intercity train completes first Edinburgh test journey
Hitachi Rail has successfully conducted a test journey of the East Coast main line's new intercity train. The new train departed from Doncaster and travelled to Edinburgh Waverley station.
The fleet of 65 new intercity trains known as 'Azuma' will be able to accelerate faster than existing trains. Virgin Trains are planning to cut journey times between Edinburgh and London by 22 minutes, connecting capital cities in just 4 hours. Moreover, passengers will have more comfort and space inside.
The new fleet will fully operate starting from the end of next year.
